Professional Consultation & Coaching for Those Who Support Others Through Extraordinary Circumstances

A Trusted Resource for Complexity

Even the most seasoned professionals encounter situations that stretch beyond familiar experience, established approaches, or available resources. Acute incidents, ethical dilemmas, organizational complexity, and cumulative exposure can raise difficult questions, often when the responsibility for others is substantial.

EdgeWise offers confidential, individualized consultation and coaching for mental health and allied professionals working with public safety personnel, trauma survivors, and others affected by high-impact circumstances.

Grounded in more than three decades of frontline experience, EdgeWise provides a collaborative relationship for navigating professional challenges, examining possibilities, and finding practical ways forward.

What We Offer

Consultation Shaped by the Circumstances

EdgeWise supports professionals navigating:

  • Acute critical incidents, traumatic deaths, and catastrophic events

  • Unfamiliar professional situations and complex decisions

  • Moral or ethical dilemmas, competing responsibilities, and organizational constraints

  • Cumulative exposure, professional identity, and long-term sustainability

Two primary engagement pathways:

Acute Professional Consultation

Focused, individualized consultation during the initial days and weeks following an extraordinary incident or unfamiliar professional challenge. Emphasis is placed on understanding the circumstances, identifying relevant resources, and considering practical next steps.

Professional Integration & Renewal

A sustained engagement for professionals seeking to reflect on accumulated experience, navigate evolving responsibilities, and strengthen the personal and professional foundations of meaningful work.

EdgeWise is professional consultation and coaching, distinct from psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and client-specific treatment planning.

The Experience Behind EdgeWise

More Than Three Decades. Across Disciplines, Systems, and Extraordinary Circumstances.

EdgeWise is informed by the professional experience of Anne E. Kellogg, whose career spans more than 30 years of frontline trauma response, public safety mental health, specialized investigations, clinical practice, and professional education.

Her work has included:

  • Public Safety & Critical Incident Response: Serving as the Mental Health Coordinator for the Los Angeles County Fire Department; working directly with personnel and their loved ones across more than 150 additional public safety agencies; providing response coordination and/or clinical support following more than 100 line-of-duty and active-duty deaths, dozens of lethal-use-of-force incidents, and decades of other critical incidents affecting those who place themselves in harm's way in service of others.

  • Civilian Crisis Response: Creating and coordinating a volunteer-based, 24/7/365 on-scene crisis response program in Los Angeles County for 25 years, supporting individuals, families, schools, businesses, and community organizations in the immediate aftermath of thousands of deaths, violent incidents, and catastrophic events.

  • Specialized Trauma & Investigations: Spending more than 15 years embedded with a high-tech crimes task force addressing child exploitation, human trafficking, and related investigations, alongside clinical work supporting survivors of sexual violence and complex trauma.

  • Education & Systems Development: Teaching at UCLA and other major educational institutions, developing trauma- and resilience-focused curricula, and providing training and consultation across federal, state, regional, municipal, rural, and volunteer organizations.

  • Organizational & Peer Support: Helping establish peer support and critical incident response programs and delivering statewide resilience education to thousands of personnel, alongside extensive work with wildland and structural firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, emergency communications and dispatch, search-and-rescue, and ocean lifeguard professionals.

This breadth of experience encompasses the smallest volunteer agencies and some of the nation's largest public safety and governmental systems. It reflects work across disciplines, professional cultures, resource environments, and the complex realities of supporting people through profound trauma, extraordinary loss, and life-altering circumstances.

Experience Informs Perspective. Humility Shapes the Work.

Decades of experience cultivate a deeper understanding of complexity, the limitations of systems, and the weight of responsibility. They also develop the perspective, resourcefulness, and discernment to navigate difficult circumstances, work effectively within real-world constraints, and make meaningful contributions within the realities of available resources and competing demands.

EdgeWise brings that perspective into a collaborative relationship. The purpose is to help experienced professionals examine difficult circumstances, recognize patterns and possibilities, draw upon relevant resources, and strengthen their own capacity for discernment and sound professional judgment.

The work is grounded in confidence earned through experience and humility developed through a deep appreciation for the intricacies of human beings, institutions, and the circumstances that shape their lives.
